Root canal treatment, also called endodontics, is performed when the nerve or pulp of the tooth is damaged or infected. Its goal is to clean and seal the inside of the tooth to eliminate pain and stop the infection from spreading, keeping the tooth instead of extracting it.
This procedure is performed on teeth that have already had root canal treatment but still show infection or discomfort at the root. It involves directly accessing the tip of the root, the apex, to clean the affected area and seal the canal from the outside.
